A cultural constant, a language continuum: to eat bread, to drink water

6-channel sound instalation, 9 min. loop

A few words in a long-dead language which seemed to be familiar to Bedřich Hrozny, were a key to decipherment of the Hittite language, the earliest preserved linguistic branch of the Indo-European language family. Like German, Greek, English, Latin or Hronzný‘s mother tongue, Hittite formerly evolved from a common source by gradual changes, too. All these languages are part of a unique evolutional continuum, all are mutually echoing.

The installation was created in cooperation with Jan Bičovský from the Institute of Comparative Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and Radek Skamitzel from the Phonetic Institute at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and their students with a financial support by the Czech Centres.
